Looking ahead …

San José Opera Guild is a sponsor of the SJSU Opera Fall 2014 Opera Theatre

On December 12th at 7:30pm in the Music Building Concert Hall, you will see the culmination of our singers' hard work as we perform a Gounod/Berstein ROMEO & JULIET scenes mash-up as well as give you a sneak peek into our spring production of Offenbach's ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD (April 18 & 19, 2015 at the SJ Woman's Club) which contains the famous (or infamous, in our case) Can-Can, choreographed by Heather Cooper. Mark your calendars for the spring opera and we would love to have you attend our scenes program on December 12th

Speight to teach an opera course at Stanford

Speight Jenkins will be teaching a course at Stanford Continuing Studies in the winter quarter coming up: The first course is a survey of opera. Speight calls it “Four Hundred Years of Opera: Murder, Passion, Betrayal, and Ecstasy.” For more information and registration check the News page.

Opera Opportunities …

Three more unique opportunities to enjoy opera, check out the News page.

Welcome to the San José Opera Guild

The Guild was established in 1947, as an independent guild, to support Opera in the Bay Area. The Guild has taken the opportunity to support several opera companies, with an emphasis on education and a passion for young singers. We support:
   • San Francisco Opera;
          San Francisco Opera Guild’s Opera à la Carte
          San Francisco Opera Merola Opera Program
   • Opera San José;
          Opera San José’s Opera Outreach
   • West Bay Opera:
   • San José State University Opera Theater:

During the opera season, the Guild sponsors San Francisco Opera Guild lecturers plus West Bay Opera and Opera San José previews featuring singers coinciding with the yearly offerings.

The Guild organizes social events ranging from season opening dinners to educational programs. In addition, the Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter containing information on opera related events throughout the bay area.
